BoardroomMum Verdict

This is a must-read book for those with toddlers. It covers so many issues and questions that parents of toddlers will have, especially the first time around. Sometimes my son’s behaviour baffles me but is perfectly normal. Just one of the many stages he is going through. Easy to read, well organised and full of really practical solutions, it leaves me to ask if Jo could write a book for the next stage and quickly!

Published at the end of last month, Jo Frost’s Toddler SOS: Solutions for the Trying Toddler Years complements her earlier book Confident Toddler Care.

Although my little boy is nearly four (new challenges are presenting themselves all the time!) I was really looking forward to reading this book. The toddler phase is a time of great change for your little one but also presents major challenges for mums and dads, especially first time around.

There are a few really great things about this book. Firstly it is well organised. Each of the 14 chapters covers a different area as diverse as bonding, potty-training, sleep and many more. At the start of each chapter there is a summary which tells you what is in each of those chapters, followed by a variety of questions and answers. Where techniques are mentioned, Jo explains these in easy-to-follow instructions and detail.

I found it really easy to read and was nodding frequently as I recognised issues and situations I had gone through. I also found it difficult to put down and finished it quite swiftly. However, keep the book handy as I am sure you will reference it many times.

When I met Jo recently in London she was keen to emphasise that she had listened to mums and dads as to what they needed – a book they could dip in and out of efficiently, full of practical advice and easy to reference. Jo has certainly achieved that. Also Jo has selected the most frequent questions she has been asked, which makes the book really relevant. Her answers are very detailed and well thought through. Very importantly her answers and solutions are practical and achievable.
